Multiply Leaders

Ready — Henrietta Mears developed a passion for teaching and spiritual formation early in life. After formal training in education, she sensed a calling not just to teach information, but to shape lives. Her early ministry experiences led her to believe the church would only grow as it developed strong, grounded leaders.

Set — At First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood, Mears built one of the most influential Christian education ministries of the 20th century. Through innovative curriculum, leadership development, and intentional mentoring, she shaped a generation of leaders who would go on to impact churches, ministries, and movements worldwide.

She was fruitful because she . . .

  • Invested in People. She focused on developing individuals who would lead others.

  • Taught for Transformation. Her goal was life change, not just the transfer of knowledge.

  • Built Systems for Growth. She designed curriculum and structure to support consistent leadership development.

  • Mentored Future Leaders. She personally trained those with leadership potential.

  • Trained for the Future. She measured success by long-term impact, not just immediate results.

Grow! — Mears’s influence extended far beyond her own ministry work as she multiplied leaders who multiplied others. She believed the greatest leaders are those who develop ad send out leaders. Your influence will multiply through people, not programs. If you invest in training a few, your influence will expand exponentially. Remember: Programs maintain organizations. Leaders multiply them.

Two Questions

  1. Who are you developing to lead beyond yourself?

  2. Are you teaching for information or transformation?
