I have known Dr. McIntosh for over twenty years, both as a mentor and as a friend. Several things come to mind as I think about the man of God that he is.

First, he is personable. When you ask Gary a question, he doesn't just answer the question, in a technical sense, he answers you, in a personal sense. He hears past the question to what you personally are asking him. Then, he answers the question in a personal manner.

Second, he is insightful, especially with his writings. I'll give a testimony of a pastor friend whom I gave one of Gary's books too, which I do a lot. After about two weeks, I ran into my friend and I asked him if he was enjoying the book. He said, "It's almost all meat! I'm used to reading books that have a few great ideas then the rest of the book is all fluff. But this book is almost all meat!"

Third, he knows how to draw out the best in people. For me personally, he helped me to develop my critical thinking skills. I learned to read with an eye towards theology. Recognizing when a popular read book is simply a rewire of a secular concept that has merely been baptized with scriptures.
